The Smart Community Aruba (SCA) received approval to start with the construction of a residential community in Kibaima. After two years of delays, the construction of the living lab can finally start.
Smart Community Aruba (SCA) is a residential neighborhood with twenty homes aimed at sustainable living where solutions for energy and water saving will be tested.
In February 2014 the Dutch Research Institute TNO signed an agreement with various Aruban parties, including; WEB, Elmar, Setar, Utilities Aruba, FCCA and the government for the formation of the Smart Community Aruba.
The preparation process is completed and agreements have been made regarding the start of construction. It will take one year to complete the project.
The Smart Community Aruba is expected to attract more business involved in testing sustainable technologies. Local companies are able to gain experience and knowledge about sustainable solutions and export that knowledge to different countries in the region.
Aruba has year round research potential with over 5000 wind and 2000 solar hours. TNO’s key objective for the Smart Community is the development of knowledge relating to scalable technology solutions and business models to help make Aruba’s transition to sustainable energy a reality.
