During the week of November 19 – 23, 2012 a large Dutch trade mission travelled to Brazil, headed by HRH Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima. The Prime Minister of Aruba, Mike Eman, attended as an invited participant. The combined delegation is a wonderful example of a win-win situation when partners in the Kingdom work together to expand their boundaries.
After the five day trade mission, Aruba’s Prime Minister, Mike Eman together with the president of MKB-Nederland (Dutch Organization of Small and Medium Enterprises), Hans Biesheuvel, announced the event ‘Europe Meets Americas’. This event will highlight Aruba’s special position to promote commercial development between Europe and Latin America and takes place on Aruba in May 2013. Different companies from Europe and Latin America will join the event to establish and further develop their business relationships and explore how Aruba can be an added-value link between the two continents.
Mike Eman explained the systematic approach of the Aruban government, which from the start focusses on a rich long term relationship within the Kingdom, whereby each partner benefits from cooperation.
During the ‘Trade Mission’ he explained how The Netherlands can benefit from relations with South American partners and what Aruba has to offer to facilitate. Eman wants to use these opportunities to develop activities on Aruba between the two continents.
Prime Minister Eman: “We are looking at a clear pattern for European companies to look towards South America and for South American companies to look in the direction of Europe. If you are half-way between the two, you can capitalize on this interest”.
The aim of the event ‘Europe Meets America’ is to focus on Aruba’s added value. Different Dutch and European companies will be invited. Aruba will look for ‘matching partners’ from different Latin American countries.
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to meet with representatives from different Dutch companies and organizations, including Mr. Hans Biesheuvel. The talks between him, and the Prime Minister Eman on the conference ‘Europe Meets America’s’ will continue in December when the latter will be in Holland. Biesheuvel: “ I believe that we have developed a solid basis for cooperation during the past few days”. He confirmed that he will study how the organization he represents can contribute to the conference.
Aruba’s Prime Minister is very enthousiastic about participatiing in the trade mission. Crown Prince Willem Alexander reiterated that the Kingdom of the Netherlands is much bigger than just The Netherlands. The countries within the Kingdom can work togher in a manner that will be beneficial for all parties within the Kingdom.
Europe Meets Americas is planned for May 2013 and supported by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation and Agriculture. Besides different speakers, the event is mainly focused on matchmaking to establish business relationships.
