Ecological Technologies and Trading Freezone NV has received final approval for their green new energy project. The company will turn waste into biofuel which will be used by Aruba’s water and energy plant WEB NV to produce energy. One of the advantages for Aruba as a tourism destination is that the increasing garbage volumes will start to be curtailed to the benefit of the quality of ‘product Aruba’.
Another significant contribution will be to the benefit of local consumers of water and electricity.
The company’s new gasification technology, the first of its kind throughout the region, will also serve as a green technology showcase for Latin America and the Caribbean while serving as an green technology education instrument for Aruba’s schoolchildren.
During the Europe Meets The America’s conference held in May this year a memorandum of understanding was signed to enable further development of this project. At the press conference announcing the Green Aruba Conference, which will kick-off this Wednesday, just months after the signing of the MOU, Ecological Technologies and Trading Freezone NV received the final go ahead.
Earlier this year Minister Mike de Meza approved the new fiscal reform package named ‘Begunstigend Beleid’ which has made Aruba’s Free Zone a more attractive instrument for investors while at the same time stimulating investments into the green energy sector to help meet the government’s policy of zero carbon emissions by 2020.
Free Zone Aruba NV is excited about this achievement. A milestone demonstrating the key role Aruba’s free zone can play in developing Aruba as a green energy and technology hub for the entire region, says Greg Peterson, director of Aruba’s Free Zone.
